Making Wine More Wonderful
Jump to
For many, Easter is a time of indulgence after a long period of fasting. If you took part in the religious practice of Lent, then you may well have enjoyed the past weekend by scoffing chocolates and drinking delicious cocktails.
The perfect antidote to the sugary sweet flavour of countless Easter eggs is the bitter, dry taste that is typical of wine. But why drink it straight when there are so many more interesting ways to quench your alcohol thirst? Continue reading for some wine inspiration.
Blueberry-Apple Cordial
This might not have the sexiest cocktail name but it is a very refreshing option that has the added benefit of using real fruit, so you could even convince yourself that it is almost healthy! A generous portion of blueberries is combined with lemon zest, applejack brandy, sugar syrup and sparkling wine to create a light beverage that tastes incredible in the sunshine. It might not look like summer out of your window just yet, but this drink takes up to a month to prepare, so you’d best get started!
Canary Flip
Now that the birds are starting to nest and the early mornings are again filled with the springtime sound of tweeting and trilling, this cocktail seems extremely apt. A bright and interesting combination of white wine, Advocaat and lemon juice, this drink is shaken with ice before being strained into a chilled martini glass. It’s enough to have you twittering like a canary!
Sangria Blanco
When you think of wine cocktails, Sangria is always the first drink that springs to mind. A holiday treat for many, it is a refreshing and cooling beverage to enjoy by the pool.
However, Sangria Blanco is a very exciting twist on the traditional Spanish red-wine concoction. This cocktail uses white wine instead of red and has a delightful citrus note to it. The wine is combined with lemon, grapefruit, grapefruit juice, dry vermouth, Suze, pisco and mint leaves for an alcoholic infusion you will adore!
Jersey
Made up of six ingredients, the Jersey is a simple cocktail to make that is bursting with flavour. Brandy, Cointreau, orange bitters, bourbon and vanilla syrup are combined with red wine to create an irresistible drink that is both fruity and sour!
Bowie Knife Cocktail
This super-sweet cocktail is perfect for those that love their rose wine. Simple, but effective, the wine is combined with lemon juice, sugar syrup and gin to make a surprisingly delicious beverage.
Round off the long weekend with one of these delights and let us know how you found it!
