-
- Pour half a shot of green Chartreuse into a shot glass placed on a saucer and carefully layer half a shot of black sambuca on top
-
- Pour a shot of green Chartreuse into a highball glass separately and ignite it
-
- Pour the flaming alcohol over the shot sitting in the saucer below - igniting the shot
-
- Throw cinnamon powder into the flames and then hold the empty highball glass above the flaming shot while upturned, in order to catch the vapour from burning shot
-
- After burning for approximately 5-10 seconds, trap the vapour in the highball glass along with ice cubes and shake, whilst blowing out flames
-
- Then consume the shot from the shot glass, inhale the captured vapours with a straw from the highball glass and suck the remaining liquid from the saucer

FAQ's
How does the alcohol content of Backdraft compare to other cocktails?
The Backdraft has a notably high alcohol content at 50.75%, making it stronger than many other cocktails. Typical cocktails usually range between 15% to 30% alcohol by volume (ABV), placing the Backdraft on the higher end of the spectrum due to its potent mix of Green Chartreuse and Sambuca.
Why is the Backdraft not shaken or stirred?
The Backdraft is neither shaken nor stirred in order to preserve the distinct layers and potent flavors of the Green Chartreuse and Sambuca. Shaking or stirring could dilute the strength and blend the sharp contrasts between the ingredients, altering the intended experience of the cocktail.
What makes Green Chartreuse a unique ingredient in the Backdraft?
Green Chartreuse is unique for its herbal complexity and high alcohol content, around 55%. Made from a mixture of 130 herbs and plants, its recipe is a closely guarded secret known by few. Its inclusion in the Backdraft contributes a distinct earthy and pungent flavor profile that's hard to replicate with any other liqueur.
What is the ideal way to serve a Backdraft?
The ideal way to serve a Backdraft is in a highball glass, allowing the drinker to appreciate the layers and color of the cocktail. It's typically served cold but not diluted with ice, to maintain its strong flavor and potency. This serving method enhances the drinking experience by highlighting the visual and aromatic qualities of the ingredients.
How can I garnish a Backdraft to enhance its presentation?
Considering the strong flavors and high alcohol content of the Backdraft, a garnish that complements its intensity without overwhelming is ideal. A small pinch of cinnamon on top or a cinnamon stick can add an aromatic appeal and a visual contrast, enhancing the overall sensory experience of enjoying the cocktail.
